Future Ritual amplifies the enlivening and transformative potential of performance art.

Against the alienation and fragmentation of contemporary life, Future Ritual creates and holds spaces for curious publics to gather, to think and to feel through place, desire, belief, loss and mystery.

We are based in Peckham (London) and work from STUDIO: Future Ritual.

a monthly workshop process with emilyn claid, Peckham (London),
Saturdays: 20 February, 20 March, 17 April, 15 May, 12 June 2027

> Book Sliding Scale Tickets

How do we perform power, pleasure and gender as a seductive presence?

This workshop draws on emilyn’s extensive experience of performance, choreography and performed ambiguities of gender and desire. Together we’ll explore cruising as a performance of relational presence and seduction.

  • Cruising – Like playing hunter and hunted, where the power and pleasure is in the physicality of the hunt.

  • Cruising - A sustained practice of seductive relational exchange in performance

  • Cruising - Working with the physicality of power, pleasure, seduction, ambiguity, cool, desire, femininity, masculinity and androgyny in performance. (Androgyny, not as neutrality, but as an ambiguous trans-ing across the arc of gendered performances)

Each day will include: a physical workout following somatic principles; live art tasks and movement improvisation; discussion of seduction and gendered ambiguity in performance; embodied work with the qualities of power and pleasure; making performances, cruising scores between performers, and between performers and spectators. We will finish each day with an extended improvisation.

This workshop process builds on two intensive workshops led by emilyn in 2026. In this iteration, we will gather monthly over five months. We’re interested in the ways that working together and getting to know each other over a longer time shifts the relational process.

The studio is located on the second floor of the Bussey Building, a former industrial warehouse. Regrettably, there is currently no lift access to this studio.

There are 44 steps, across 5 flights with between 5 and 10 steps each. There is a handrail along the stairs. There are bathrooms on the same floor as the studio.

to participate

We are experimenting with a new sliding scale for pricing. Use the codes below to access the lower priced places.

  • £450 - If you have external funding or are financially secure, you are comfortably able to afford modest luxuries like overseas holidays or to set money aside in savings.

  • £360 - If you have a reliable source of income that more than covers your basic financial needs, you don't have to worry about the costs of nights out. Code: WORKSHOP360

  • £270 - If your income covers your needs with some left over, but you budget consciously and wouldn’t describe yourself as financially secure. Code: WORKSHOP270

  • £180 - If you work for minimum wage or have a similarly low & precarious income. The number of the lowest tier places is limited to three in each workshop. Code: WORKSHOP180

There is the option to pay a £100 deposit, with the balance payable one month before the workshop, or to pay the full amount now.
