Future Ritual is a practice of gathering, curating and organising. We collaborate with artists to create contemporary expressions of performance and ritual, working to support the emergence of new and more attuned cultures.

We are based in Peckham (London) and work from STUDIO: Future Ritual.

an intensive workshop with Julia Bardsley, Peckham (London), Tuesday 20 - Saturday 24 October 2026

> Tickets: £300 // £250 concession

How can slow process + analogue experimentation re-enchant our creative processes?

Engaging with practices of slow cognition + radical adaptation, Julia Bardsley invites participants to enter an abyssal world.

  • Abyssal – of or like an abyss: immeasurable; unfathomable

  • Abyssal - of the ecological zone along the deep ocean floor

This workshop reimagines the black box (theatre, camera, mind, and eye/i) as a sanctuary, a positive space for finding alternative ways of doing + making. What unknown hunches, pleasures + discoveries can be found in the dark?

Emerging from her current research project, The Abyss System, the workshop draws on Julia’s extensive experience working with the interplay of performance, pinhole photography, video projection, sculptural objects, psychological garments + hybrid personae.

Working with the fading autumn light, we will construct + inhabit a black box abyss, a site of strange speculative agency + analogue experimentation.

The week will involve mapping + modelling our creative processes, forming new performative beings + forging collaborative + coexistent choreographies.

The abyss methodology investigates the creative process as an act of conjuring + of cultivating the conditions for wonder – into | out of the dark.

who is this for?

We welcome those at any stage of practice, including those who are relatively emerging, those who have practiced for many years, and those who are returning to a practice.

We will experiment with theatrical and photographic modes of thinking, though you do not need to be a theatre maker or a photographer.

The workshop is for those who welcome slowness, and are open to experimentation, process and discovery.

accessibility
The studio is located on the second floor of the Bussey Building, a former industrial warehouse. Regrettably, there is currently no lift access to this studio.

There are 44 steps, across 5 flights with between 5 and 10 steps each. There is a handrail along the stairs. There are bathrooms on the same floor as the studio.

If there are other ways we can facilitate your access during the workshop, please let us know on the info form when making your booking - or write to us with any questions.
